AUSTRALIAN DIATOMITE.
FOR DYNAMITE MANIPULATION. (Reed. 5.25 a.m.) LONDON, May 5. Tie Imperial Institute has examined a sample of Australian diatomite. Reports from Victoria and New South Wales say it is of most promising - quality for the manufacture of dynamite, especially those - samples from Lillicur, > ' GERMANS IN BELGIUM. LONDON, May 5. Amsterdam alleges that the massed movements of troops to Belgium continue. The German strength on the Meuse is now 700,000. The Kaiser is going to Verdun to inspect the front. PREPARING FOR AN EMER. GENCY. AMSTERDAM, May 4. There is great activity in th e German lines in Belgium. Numerous troop trains are passing, and reserves are camped at the chief railway junctions ready to be despatched in any direc- | tien. trenches have been thrown up along 9ic canals, rivers, and railway embankments. Engineers are laying new telephones in all directions. Everything denotes that Germany is preparing for an emergency.
