MEMORIAL TO CAPTAIN SCOTT.
UNVEILED BY MR. ASQUITH. (Reed. 10.5 a.m). ' LONDON, May 5. Mr. Asquith, unveiling in Saint Pauls, a memorial to Captain Scott, and his companions, said it would be idle to apply conventional eulogy to Scotlj. Besides being a great explorer he- was one of the most courageous and most devoted of sailors. The story of Oates’ death has become classic. These were men who showed in the dim polar twilight, without any witness and without knowing whether my record would ever reach Britain Df their supreme quality for thoughtfulness, courage and endurance and 'his before the great ideal which on i world-wide stage is now testing our lational manhood. While we are justy proud of our heroic warriors on sea ind land, let us not forget the imjerishable debt and tireless example :h e whole empire owes to Captain 3cott and his comrades.
