The High Commissioner’s cable datq ed London, April 8, is as folows: — Quotations, unless otherwise specified, ar e average market prices on spot. Meat—Only a small quantity of Ngav Zealand meat is aA r ailable. Mutton. —Brands other than Canterbury 7id; ewes, 75d. River plate mutton is selling at lOd owing to short supply. Lamb. —New Zealand lambs of all descriptions, including this season’s, 8!|d; Australian lambs of all descriptions, Bgd; River plate lambs are selling at 10§d OAving to short supply. Australian and Ngav Zealand, together with River plate prices, are hoav under Government control.

Beef.—There is only New Zealand bull beef at market. It is selling: Hinds and fores, 6d; chilled hinds, 81d; fores, 7d. Butter.—The market is steady. Danish (firmer), per c,Avt 174/ to 176/; Ngav Zealand, steady, 162/ to 164/; Australian, quiet, 158/ to 160/; Siberian fair demand, 126/ to 134/; Argentine, steady, 148/ to 142/. Cheese.—The market is very firm. Canadian, firm, stock small, per cAvt, 1.06/ to 108/; New Zealand, market firmer Avhite and coloured 103/ to 104/; United States firm. 100/ to 103/; English Cheddar, very firm, 114/ to 116/; Cheshire, 120/ to 122/. On the Ist April the estimated Canadian and United States cheese sUc>s at London, Liverpool and totalled 07.000 boxes, against 70 5-00 at, the same time last year. New Zealand * i nd Australian cheese stocks at London and Bristol totalled 28,000 crates, aeninst 19.000 last year.
