RANGIWAEA NOTES.

FAREWELL TO MR. AND MRS. J. REARDON AND FAMILY. In th e Rangiwaea Public Hall the other, day the' lodies of the district met to say farewell to Mrs. Reardon and • j; daughters,: who are leaving the Bltock. It was with feelings of deepest regret that they.«bade ".goodbye" to such an old and esteemed resident. No matter what the call mig-ht ,be; or at what hour of th e day or night, Mrs. Reardon was ever ready to assist in cases of need. That "Liberty Hall"; at the Ford was well known to all travellers.. Faithful imitators of their .mother were her daughters, who have > rendered. > much valuable assistance in all public affairs held here;" > ; '." r T'^"'b^ As a slight token of friendship, the ladies of Rangiwaea and Eaketapauma subscribed loyally towards a suitablepresent, which took the form of a pendant set with pearls and peridots for Mrs. Reardon, together with a silverplated sugar scuttle and silver butterknife; wftile the Misses Reardon were the recipients of a brooch each, one set in nuby-doublets and another in tourmalenes. It was something of a surprise to Mrs. Reardon to find that she was the centre of such publicity, and in kindly words she thanked the ladies for their exceeding kindness. Saturday evening saw the gentlemen" of the two blocks gathered to entertain Mr. J. Reardon at a smoke eoncert on convivial evening, and also to present him with a case of pipes as a memento of the good feeling which has long existed between himself and his friends. Truly, Rangiwaea willjffl- '• J the presence of this family.from midst.

One pleasing feature is reported from the school. Three pupils of the Owhakura School have gained prizes to the value of 10/6 each in the recent writing competitions for the schools of Taihape and district. Two prizes offered by Mr. Neagle were* awarded to Leah Menkley and George McCann„ whilist one of the two prizes donated by Mr. Wilson was gained by Doraj Gowdy. i $

Card evenings will soon be in full swing at the Hall. Turn up, you fellows, and give a hand to make a bit o£ life in the Block. But what about another farewell affair for: one of tieboys who is leaving shortly for camp. Should we not make a dance of it?
