FIFTEENTH REINFORCEMENTS.

TAIHAPE QUOTA FARETWELLED. The Patriotic Society held a farowell social -juicl dance in the TcfiK Hall evening in honour of the Tafhape quota of the 15th Reinforcements, who left by train this morning for camp. There was a large attendance, and these present spent a very enjoyab'e evening. Mr. R. W. Smith in bidding farewell to the men, apologised for the absence of the Mayor, Mr. A. L. Arrowsmith, who was out of town. He stated that the function marked the going into camp of Taihape's quota of the 15th Reinforcements and although it was very much to be regretted, the necessity still existed to say "an revoir." It was certainly something for the district to be proud that such a large percentage of the manheed of the district recognised the sericusness of the position and were willing to carry their share of the burden. It was most heartening to see the great improvement in connection with the war. Day after day showed improvement. To a great extent this was due to cc-operation and complete understanding among the Entknte powers and it was most encours|§mg" to know they had come together and were fighting in complete co-operation. Britain was new able to say what was contraband and what was not because of this cc-operation. This wculd help very much more than we could estimate. The complete understanding between the power? would give our army th> same grip upon the throat of the enemy that our navy had upon the enemy's navy. (A oplatise). Centimiinjr, Mi*. Smith stated that since the last Reinforcements n had? 'eft a meeting was called and a strong and representative committee was set up with power to add to the number to form a Returned Soldiers' .Association Committee. Those who were unable to go to the front could assist, on this committee. It would enccuraee the young men "f the district. "I ?sk you." he <j»H. "to remem-

ber this O^mmit+ei- 1 and heir? i« every possib'e. Tt behoves every man of us to help them every day and all day."

"T want to express to our guests," STid Mr. Smith. The very hearty and warm appreciation cf all cf us cf the net'm tbev are taking. We. all wish thorn p snfe return and I'm sure that T am voicing - the wish of all uresent that i? they have to go into the fighting line, they won't be kept in Egypt '

doing a little skirmishing, but wiILJ-o pitted against the Kaiser's best. %Tf that eventuates we feel quite cormdent that we'll have cause to be as proud of them as cf those who have gone before." Turning to the men Mr. Smith bade them farewell en behalf of the people in the district and wished them a safe* return. Three cheers were then/given for the men. who were afterwards entertained at supper.
