A BEREAVEMENT.
The whole community will deeply isympathise with the Rev. R. H. Catherwood, and with Mrs. Oatherwood on the sad event which has taken from life their eldest daughter, only eleven years old, Isobel, known as Ella. When it was made known just after 7.30 last evening that the little lassie had gone, quite a gloom overshadowed many families and the meetings of some institutions were adjourned out of sympathy and respect. The child had been ill for several weeks with peritonitis, of a purulent character, rendering an operation necessary. On Sunday a distinct change for the better had taken place and new hopes had been built thereon, 'and death '.came quite unexpectedly last night as the result of a clot of blood in the lungs. The little lassie was indeed a pattern of childhood that will be
sadly missed Uy very many sorrowing little friends. Both Mr. and Mrs. Oatherwood express their sympathies with Dr. Sinclair and his staff who did all that was possible for medical skill and unremitting attention to do. The matron of the hospital, Nurse 'Tootell, did not leave the child's bed;side for thirty-three hours,- and the fight against peritonitis was.won, and little Elia was fast recovering, and had already commenced talking of the presents sh e wculd mike to those who were doing so much for her when the clot of blood ledged in her lungs and 1 she fell into an unconsciousness from which she never recovered, dying in i only a few hours.
