where in France"—were exported to the number of 107,257, valued at £44,751,. in Januany, 1916, as against 63,549, valued at £18,519, for January, 1915.
Mr. D. J. McLennan has received instuctions from Mr. W. Jackson, who is leaving the district, to sell the whole of his household furniture, cow, heifer, three pigs, harness, trap, poultry, tools, and various other goods. The sale will take place at Mr. Jackson's residence, on th<3 Winiata Road, on Thursday, April 6th.
The 11th Reinforcements marched from Featherston camp on Friday to the summit of the Rimutakas. They bivouacked in the open, and engaged -in an attack at dawn on Saturday. The journay to the Summit was accomplished without mishap, and the physical fitness of the men was attested by the fact that not one fell out on the route.
Sister Leonora (Norah Clements), one of four nuns who neeently went to Taumarunui to open a convent there, was drowned in the Wanganui River, at Manunui, yesterday. The unforiu,.ate Jady, who was only 22 years of age,, went into a boat and subsequently met with difficulties. Father Forde went to hen assistance; but the current was so strong that her body was 300 yards down the river, in next to no time. When recovered life was extinct. The inquest's vedict was "accidental drowning"; Father Forde was commended for his efforts.
I A middle-aged man named J. Maleus met with a painful accident at the Windsor Hotel;. Wellington, late on Saturday night. It appears that he was engaged in fumigating one of the rooms on the second floor, and instead of descending by the staircase, was climbing down the fire escape, when he slipped and feM to the ground. He then climbed through a window, and was found in the pantry by the liftman in great pain about 10.30 p.m. Maleus was then removed to the district hospital, where it was found he was suffering fnom very severe injuries to his left side and ribs. The injured man belongs to Auckland.

The exports of frozen beef from the Dominion duing January last totalled 43,31ewt ; valued at £94,124, as compared with 62,364. cwt, valued at £128,915, for January, 1915.

Lat evening the members of the Taihape Gymnasium Club, who met at the Gymnasium Hall for the practice, adjourned as a mark of respect on hearing of the death of the daughter of their President, the Rev. R. EL Catherwood.
At the last meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board applications for the position of Medical Superintendent to the- Taihape Hopital were considered. and Dr. R. J. Boyd, of Taihape, was appointed. Dr- Boyd -has also been appointed medical officer for the Railways.
A local drover recently took a mob of sheep to Bulls, and when in that township one of his dogs, which had never been in that part of the country before, disappeared. The drover returned by train the next day and on the following morning was surprised ic find that .the wanderer had returned home. The sagacity of some members of the canine tribe is truly wonderful.
i The King of Bulgaria has a crown that he has never worn in public. In 1902 "Prince" Ferdinand thought the time was ripe for proclaiming himself King, and ordered a diadem from Brussels. , The "Concert of Europe" ordained otherwise, and the crown relegated to a cupboard until 1908, when the Prince was elevated to kingship. Austria, however, prohibited Ferdinand's coronation, so that he has not yet worn the cnown publicly.
Mr T P O 'Connor, who recently celebrated his sixty-eighth birthday, is the only M.P. whose ghost has been seen in the House of Commons. In 1597 "T.P." was away in Ineland, but Mr. Swift McNeil, w-ho knew nothing of his journey, looked across to see if hi? friend was in his place, and saw him sitting there. "T.P." was also seen from the Press Gallery.
