HIBERNIAN CONCERT.
A HUGE SUCCESS. The concert in the Town Hall last evening came fully up to anticipations, both from an entertaining and 'a financial point of view, 'and the organiser, Mr. Cochrane, scored an undeniable success. During the first number or two of the programme all was going well, but th e audience did not know that a wire had been received, stating that the motor car conveying the Wanganui continget had met with a mishap, and when nearly nine o'clock -had arrived and the expected visitors hadn't things became critical. However, the lame car Came along just in time to prevent the audience getting any idea of the anxiety that, prevailed behind the scens. The programme was carried through with the utmost enthusiasm, and every item without exception was undeniably encored. The Taihape Orchestra is now an institution of which the town may well feel proud, as it lends a charm and interest to local entertainmets not hitherto enjoyed. The step-danc-ing items were beyond praise and it is hoped it will not be the last Ave shall see of those clever oerformers. Both the vocalists scored decided successes, Mr. Midgley carried the large audience with, him in the fine renderings of his several items. Mr. Wilkie in his comic contributions simplv brought down the house. Mr. Swan's recitations were well rendered and well received. It is almost superfluous to refer to the items supplied by Lieut. Bucklev and his ouartette from Wanganui. Their numbers were all very fine particularly from a musical point of view. Mr. W. Sheplev being: simply a wonder on the Enarlish concertina. One of the most enjovable items was Mr. P. Wi'kie's "Just a wee Deoch an' Doris," the last refrain of which was substituted with ■the words "Just a wee Bob," when showers of coin rained on him, no less than £5 7/- being received for the .Wounded Soldiers' Fund. So ended St. Patrick's Day, 1916. .
