MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

The fortnightly sitting of the Tab hape Magistrate’s Court was held today, His Worship, 'Mr. J. G. U Hewitt, S.M., presiding.

A first offender was convicted and fined 5/- for drunkenness.

Joseph B’rcwn and James Miles were each fined 7/6 for driving at night without displaying lights. Two ■similar charges were brought against James Miles who was fined 7/6 on each charge.

For keeping an unregistered dog William Walker was fined 7/6. John Corkill made application for a remission of the arrears- in connection with an order made against him for the maintenance of his wife, Mary Jane Corkili, for whom Mr. A. L. Arrowsmith appeared. The application was dismissed, costs of £1 !/■ being allowed defendant.

Wong Kee was charged with trading on Sunday. Sergeant Harvey gave evidence to the effect that he saw two men go into the alleyway by the shep and go to the back dom. One man came out. He had a packet of cigarettes in his pocket. He (Sergeant Harvey) entered the back door and saw Wong Kee sell a bottle of hop beer to the man inside. Wong Nam admitted the sale at the back.

A technical point arose as to the reading of the act and judgment was reserved.

Judgment wa s given for plaintiffs by default in the following cases; R. Wilson and So. v. W. Elliott, £lB 18/4. costs £1 19/6; C. B. Robertson v. Waina Pikarangi and Pikarangi Wereta, £6 2/5, costs £1 11/6; E. C. Barnett v. F. C. Meyer £4 11/6, costs £1 7/-; R. C. Ongley v. Kingi Topia, £l7 15/6, costs £1 19/6; H. D. Bennett. and Go. v. Raukawa Ema, £6O 6/6, costs £4 15/-; G. E. Little '• M. Bilderbeck £1 0/6, costs 5/-. T. White was ordered to pay W. Eales the sum of IS/- forthwith in default two days’ imprisonment. Inia Makara was ordered to pay H. M. Burtenshaw the sum of £lO 8/6 on or before 23rd February, 1916, in default 10 days’ imprisonment.
