NEW ZEALAND AND JAPAN.
Amongst the arrivals by the Makura at Auckland wore two Japanese gentb men. Messrs. Hibiya and Kawanashi, who are combining business with ploasiTp, and are touring the country, particularly with a view to obtaining information about the prospects of wool exportation from New Zealand to
Japan. Mr. Hibiva informed an Auckland Star representative that Japan now entertained high hopes of building up a lasting trade between that country and Xew Zealand. Japan was experiencing a great boom in trade in consequence of the war, and her ■exportation of toys, glassware, etc., to tie English-speaking countries of the world, which was supplanting the ciratwhu:- German trade, was increasing by leaps and bounds. Woollen manufactures in Japan were becoming an important industry, auguring well, for the future trade with New Zealand, and a depot was established at Sydney by the wool-importing firm' which he represented. Commercial men in Japan wero keenly anticipating a direct service btwcen that country and New Zealand. ______^
