LONDON PRODUCE MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 25

i The High Commissioner's maxkct report, dated London, January 22, is as fallows:'—

Meat.—The market is quiet, and very little business is being done, owing to a continued large supply of all descriptions of home killled, which is selling at poor prices. Present prices for frozen meat are- firmer, owing to short supply.

Mutton. —Canterbury, 7 5-Sd pe<r lb for light weight: medium, 7-kl. Other brands than Canterbury are not quoted The average prices of lamb are: Canterbury, 7 7-Sd for all weights; second grad:\ 7 §&; other brands than Canterbury, 7 7-S'd for best quality; ordinary quality, 7 5-Bd.

1 Beef.—No New Zealand beef of any. descrition is offered at the market. Chilled hinds, 7-Jd; fores, oijd. Butter.—The market is quiet at a decline." Danish, per cwt, 150/ to 160/; New Zealand, spot market bare owing to slow delivery from the docks. Good demand for butter available at 144/ to 146/, and up to 148/; unsaltecT, 150/ to 100/; fine, 140/ to 142/; Australian, 140/ up to 146/; Siberian, 124/ to 130/; Argontine, 138/ to I4iy. Cheese. The market is firm, and rices continue to advance. Canadian, white and coloured, 90/ to 100/; New Zealand, white and coloured, 98/; United States, Cheddar shapes, 96/ to 98/; English Cheddar, 104/ to 100/: Cheshire, 114/ to 118/.

Hemp. The market is veiry firm and greatly affected by reports v* freight shortages. The market is excited, and accurals quotations cannot be given. The followng quotations are nominal:—New Zealand, good fail**, per

ton, on spot, £45 fair £43; Manila, new graded fair £55, coarse £49; January to March shipment Now Zealand good fair-£43, fair 42. Tow: Second grade. £25. The output from Manila for the week was 1.0,000 bales. Wheat. The market is steady, and prices are well maintained. There is good demand for forward delivery. Canadian, on spot 08/ pe/r quarter, January-March shipment 07/; Australian, Janauary-March shipment, by steamer 65/0, by sailer 44/.

Oats. The market is qniet. and only small business is being done. Argentine, on spot 31/0, Janaury-March shipment 34/. Hops. On account of freight scarcity, the market is steady with improved demand. Wool, t The market is strong.
