An extraordinary story is told by The Times’ Petrograd correspondent of an encounter between a German company and a herd of bison near Bieloviezh, the only surviving herd in existence. The parties met Accidentally, and regarded each other with mutual curiosity till a chance shot fired by the soldiers roused to fury these ordinarily peaceful animals, which madly charged the company, goring and trampling underfoot all in their path. Only some 20 Germans escaped the maddened beasts by a prudent flight. On the side of the bisons there were eight casualties. Top wages ig offered to first class grass-seeders by Mr. T. A. Garratt; Chemist, Taihape.
