THE NEW RECRUITING SCHEME.
DETAILS ANNOUNCES NEXT WEEK
T-he details of the new recruiting scheme will be announced early next week, stated the Prinme Minister (Eight Hon. W. F. Massey), in answer to a question put by a reporter. The scheme is already in existence, but it has not yet received its final! consideration at the hands of the Defence authorities, and it has still to come before Cabinet. There is everv likelihood, however, that it
will be in active operation soon enough to assist the Defence Department in securing the men required for the 12th Reinforcements, due to go into camp in the second week in January.
The proposals of the Government are understood to be based upon the Irish recruiting system, which has proved remarkably successful in P r ?£r tice. The central idea of t-hat scken*'was to use the local authorities and voluntary • recruiting organisations for the purpose of getting into personal touch with possible or probable recruits. The general) instruction issue** to agents was to let every man know that he personally was needed in t-he Army and to secure from him, if possible, a definite statement of his intions and his reasons. The Irish authorities had not the advantage that the New Zealand Government possesses in the National Register, ffMA contains a full list of the eligible men, classified according to their dependents. „______—
