Henry Ford has induced hundrels of leading pacificists in the United States, including State Governors, to go to Europe on his peace crusade. Official support is lacking, but the idea has taken a great hold on American imagination. Ford says he will go into the trenches and call on all fighting men to go home. The Press ridicules the whole tiring as insanity, but leading educationists, and women’s advocates are all joining the party, which sails to-day (Saturday) in a recently engaged steamer. A soldier who rvas wounded in the big advance says be saw one very funny thing. One of our chaps, he states, had promised his best girl a German helmet, and when he was charging made a bee-line for a finely-dressed officer who was wearing an ornamental helmet. Up went the officer’s hands, and he prepared to walk to our rear. “’Arf a mo’,” said the Highlander, “gie us yer bonnet.” The German refused. "Gie us yer bonnet, or I’ll ” said Jock, tickling him in the ribs with the point of his bayonet. Olf came the helmet like lightning, and it was soon threaded on the Scotsman’s belt.

An electrical plant has been installed at the Taihapc Railway Station, which was lit on Thursday by the new illumination for the- first ttime. A man named John Green wood was arrested last night for drunkenness and came before the Court this morning, when. Mr. ,T. I*. Aldridge, J.P., sentenced him to 14 days’ imprisonment. Mr. McCormick, of the Boot and Shoe Store, notifies that he is having an odds-and-ends and broken-size sale before the ’Xmas rush commences. At his lecture this evening Ser-o-eant-Major ffuckey will liist deal with explosive shells, and the lecture on machine-guns will not he delivered till after 9 p.m., so that all those working till that time will he able to attend. At the Three Stars Theatre to-mor-ro-v (Sunday) will ho shown that fine picture, “Carmen,” of 3,000 feet. The leading role will he taken by Marion Leonard. Other suitable subjects will also be shown. There are good programmes at both picture theatres to-night. The Red Gross and Out Boys’ Committees advertise that the drawing of their art unions will take place m O'Connor’s Hall on Monday, 4th December, at 7.30 p.m. Those still holding hooks are requested to hand them in to the respective secretaries before noon on Monday next, in order that the draw may be complete.
