It is reported that King Peter of Serbia was present at the battle «u Pirot. He advanced, sword in hand, to the firing line, and urged the soldiers on till the end of the day, when, exhausted, lie fainted.

The printing of Christmas Cards is now a feature of the work turned out by the Taihape Printing and Publishing Co.. Ltd and samples may be seen and prices will be given on application at the office.*

It is announced that St. Margaret’s Ladies’ Guild will hold a Garden Party and Sale of Work, in the Vicarage grounds, Taihape, on Thursday, 16th December, commencing at 2.30 p.m. A concert will be held, under the same auspices, in the Parish Hall, in the evening.

The first monograph (15 pages of small -type) on economic matters is now issued in the form of a "Report on the Cost of Living in Few Zealand from 159.11914," a copy of which comes to ns from- the Government Statiscian.

In another column the acting-sec-retary of the Taihape Carnival, publishes, officially, the winners of prizes in the combined raffles, including mo-tor-car and sideboard, which wore drawn last Monday evening. The winner of the Ford motor-car, presented by Mr. 'A. E. Wakeman, was Mr. T. Hills (or Hillas), Rangiora; the sideboard presented by Mr. Somerville was won by Mr. David Moir, of Huntcrville. ’Thus it will be seen that the two principle prizes went away from Taihape. The winner of the fourth prize, Mr. C. Mextcd, it is understood, is in camp, preparing for the front.
