WASTE OF FOOD PRODUCTS. LONDON, Nov. 23. The Board of Agriculture has issued a leaflet recommending an increase in the production of cheese, because of present high prices, as a contribution to the national food supply.. It adds: 1 'Under present conditions the use of large quantities of milk in the production of butter is wasteful, while wholesome and economical' substitutes for butter arc available. Butter contains less than half the food in the milk required for its manufacture.’’’ The leaflet is causing comment in the trade, some regarding it as an advertisement for margarine.
JOCKEY AND ACTRESS,
DEPORTED FROM ENGLAND:
LONDON,
No \J23.
Tod Sloan, the well-known American ex-jockey, and Mademoiselle d’Herlys, the French revue artiste, were arrested under the Defence of the Realm Act. D 'Herlys was deported to France, and Sloan to America. No charge was preferred, both having been simply described as undesirable aliens. An appeal is not allowed under the. Act. Sloan was lately appearing at music-halls in the suburbs. It is understood his recent. - autobiography sold well, but this I would not account fur his extravagant living.
