BOROUGH FOREMAN RESIGNS.
OFF TO THE FRONT.
EULOGISED BY COUNCIL. Mr. A. Anderson who at present holds the position of Borough Foreman, has been accepted in the Engineers’ quota of the 10th Reinforcements and leaves for Trentham Camp on the 15th iust. At the meeting of the Taihape Borough Council last evening his resignation was received.
The Mayor (Mr. A. L. Arrowsmith) said that he would move that Mr. Anderson’s resignation be accepted with regret. In so doing he would like to add that nothing had been , too much trouble to Mr. Anderson to help him (Mr. Anderson) by furnishing any Information required. Had he remained here, the Council would not have held his services very long, because he would have been able to command a salary higher than the Council could afford to pay. He hoped to see Mr. Anderson come back safe and sound and owuld like to be in a position to show him that if he came back, his billet would be there for him. Mr. Arrowsmith added that he thought every local body should, if possible, keep open the position of any employee 'who volunteered. Mr. McLennan endorsed the remarks of the Mayor and said that Mr. Anderson ■would no doubt be of valuable service to the arm of the service he was joining—the Engineers. Crs. Wrightson and Healey also paid eulogistic references to the services rendered by Mr. Anderson. The motion to accept the resignation was then put and carried, and Mr. Anderson was granted a fortnight’s holiday on full pay.
