Here he laboured with much acceptance for eleven years, and while there met and married the eldest daughter of a neighbouring minister, the Rev. !t. M. Killen, D.N. "When he loft for New Zealand in 18S4 the Conlig congregation remained without a minister for twelve months and then extended to him an invitation to return.

On arrival in New Zealand the Eov. Mr. Gordon succeeded the late Eov. W. Stewart at Marten, which position ho held for 27 years, retiring from the ministry in 1911 owing to ill-health. Since then he had been living with his son at Shannon and latterly at Taoroa. The deceased was beloved by all with whom he came into contact. As minister he was an effective and faithful preacher and greatiV esteemed, while as pastor his sympathetic and untiring efforts with those amongst whom he. laboured for so many years, won him the personal affection and gratitude of everyone. His service will long be held in most kindly remembrance.
