The committee have decided to allocate £170,000 of the Australian Day funds to the relief of wounded. It is stated that failure to do this already has seriously affected tihe success of other patriotic movements, particularly that on Allies Day.

ABOLITION OF SALE OF SPIRITS

Irr the Assembly, Mr Waddell gave notice of a motion advocating the abolition of the sale of spirits, which will only he allowed to be sold by Government agents, the sales of wines and beers to be allowed to continue.

WHEAT IMPORTATION.

Mr Hall stated the Government importation of wheat last year was 255,666 quarters, the cost being £724,608 and the amount sold was 98,552 quarters, the price being 7/ to 7/6 per tbushel.

COAL LUMPERS’ STRIKE. Tf

■ SYDNEY. October 26. The Coal Lumpers’ Union considered the emplyoers’ reply to their demands and decided they were not acceptable. The cessation of work continues. It Is stated in shipping circles that the Federal Government commandeers all the coal in other States for the transports. This will mean that no coal is available for private shipping unless they are able to coal in Newcastle, which i s considered improbable as it is anticipated the Newcastle lumpers will act in unison with Sydney.
