GENERAL WAR NEWS.
THE NEED FOR MEN. THREE MILLIONS WANTED BEFORE NEXT SPRING. LONDON, October 19. GeGneral Eric Swayne, speaking at Hull, said Britain needed three million more.men before the spring. It was. estimated that Germany has still be- „ -en nine and ten million men of c o i>s ranging from 18 to 45. It was useless to talk of wearing out Germany, but if Britain raised an additional three million, the German numbers would be counterbalanced, and the enemy recognise that it would be fruitless to continue the war. Britain did not want conscription, but, unless tjhree million men were recruited by the spring, the military authorities could net be held responsible for the result.
