Instructions have been cabluvl by the Defence Minister to .Colon 3l Rho'it?; to make special inquiries in Egypt into the allegations of the noade'l.'ery ~f letters and pariels to our men at the front in Gallipoli, and especially into the charges that large quantities of goods are being stolen or otherwise lost in transit. Mr Allen states tfaat special care was to be taken to see that the Christmas gifts sent forward in the transports recently should reach the men for whom they were intended. There were some 600 tons of these packages and the quartermaster who /had sailed with the ship was required io give a receipt for them.
