■» .. NSAEING ITS CLOSE. WELLINGTON, This Day. After the telegraph office closed last night, the House continued consideiation of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Bill. At 2.30 a division was taken on a lengthy addition moved by Mr. Wilford, confirming an arrangement between the Petone Borough Council, the Hult Park Railway Co., and the Gear Meat Co., regard'isg the Hutt railway. Th<? clauses were addecr bv 31 to 13.
Mr. Buick moved a scries of cfauses, exempting the Manawatu and' West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association's grounds at Palmerston 3T&rth from payment of rates.. The clause' was rejected on the voices. The Bill was reported at 3 o 'circle from Committee, read a third time, and passed.
The Municipal) Corporations Amendment Bill was further considered in Committee. A new clause directing how valuations are to be' made was added on the motion of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr. McCombs moved a new clause empowering the four cities to raise under the Local Bodies Act, 1913, any sum not exceeding £20,000 for a market place, without taking a poll. This was rejected by 25 to 8. The Bill was reported with amendments, read a third time, and passed. v -. The War Regulations Amendment Bill was read a third time passed'. Mr. Massey moved the second reading of the Alien Enemy Teachers''Bill. He briefly explained that it was designed to prevent an alien enemy from occupying positions in school or a university. Mr. Wilford thought the Bill should not be confined to teachers only, but should include all classes. He complained of discrimination shown in interning aliens. Dr. Newman supported this view and also complained of laxity in insistin on interning aliens. Mr. Hi'ndmarsh expressed himself as sympathetic towards Profesor Von Zedlitz whilst voting for the BiD. Mr. McCallum defended the attitude of the Premier, and pointed out that Victoria College Council was responsible for inducing Von Zedlitz to refrain from forwarding his resignation. Messrs. Webb, Nos worthy, and Malcolm also spoke. The Premier, in the course of his reply, sketched the history of the agitation against Von Zedlitz. He denied that any discrimination had been shown in the internment of aliens. At the same time we had to be just to ourselves before being just to others: The Bill was then committed, read a third time, and passed. The House adjourned at 5.35 a.m'. until noon.
