CARNIVAL EXECUTIVE.
A MONSTER SPORTS GATHERING
There was a good attendance at the meeting cf the Carnival Committee last evening, Mir W. McLennan presiding.
Mr McLennan reported that the pictures were showing very gic'od results. The question of extending the date of the closing of raffles and art unions ■was raised by Mr McLennan, and on hig motion it was decided to extend the date, but no definite extension was arranged, this being left over till the next meeting of the committee. The chairman said that there was a suggestion to hold a combined sports’ carnival on the Recreation Ground on Labour Day. October 25th. In tjhis connection he would like to say that M : ss Whenuaroa’s Committee bad intended to hold a spelts’ gathering on that dat e anfl ” lia d applied to the Borough Council for the ground. He had, (however, spoken to the secretary of their committee and also to Mr Whenuaroa, who had agreed to a combined gathering be held. The Council had, consequently, held in abeyance the letting icf tjhe ground. The idea was to held one big day, but each candidate’s committee would be abl e to run as many side-shows as they wished, th© proceeds of which would gt> In support of their candidate. Some discussion took place, and, on the motion iOf Mr Powell, seconded by Mr Ashton, it was resolved to hold a combined gathering and it was also decided to tfaank Miss Whenuaroa’s committee for their action in the matter. The Sports’ Committee is to consist of the Carnival Clem mitt ee with three represnta.ti.ves of each candidate’s committee, and Messrs Cribh, Ashton, Missen, Banks, and McLennan were elected a sub-committee to <?raw up a programme of events. A member of one of the candidate s committees (|Not N 0.4) came to me to-day and said, “I wish we’d thought of a Masked Ball. These No. 4 people are going to have a record house to-night. It’ll be worth a mint of money to them. Well, good luck to them, anyway —it’s all fc*r the cause,” and so saying, went sadly off.
