ON ACTIVE SERVICE
MAORIS, THE SIXTH,. AND THE “ TRENTS. ”
\V ELLINGTON, Sept. 17.
The second Maori contingent which has been in training at Takapuna, near Auckland, will make its first appearance in Wellington to-morrow afternoon, when it will engage in a route march through the city. The Maoris will be accompanied by the balance of the Sixth Reinforcements, and the advance party of the Trentham Regiment (the Earl of Liverpoool’s Own.) The whole of those troops have been, placed on active service. At the Town, Hall the Maoris wil Ibe addressed by the Governor, the Premier, Sir Joseph Ward, an dthc Hons. James Allen, Dr. Pomaro. and Sir James Carroll. The Maoris received a most enthusiastic scnd-oIT from Auckland this afternon. The Minister for Defence announced to-night that after the Maori contingent left a contingent of from 250 to--300 Nine Isanders and 50 Raratongans. would be brought to New Zealand. They would go into camp at Auckland and train for the front.
