OBITUARY.
THOMAS RENWICK MOWAT,
Many friends in this district will regret to hear of the death of Mr. T. I?. Mowat (for many years manager rf the Bank of New Zealand in Huuterville), which occurred at Ashburton somewhat suddenly on Wednesday morning.. The deceased gentleman had not been in very good health some months ago, but had improved considerably, and took a flying visit to this district recently and looked up old friends. His demise must have been quite unexpected, as no intimation of iJI-liealth had reached his friends her-.-since his visit. The deceased gentleman was probably as well known as any man in the bank service. He was of herculean proportions, and turned the scale at over 27 stone weight. Ho took over the Hunterville branch or the bank nearly 1(5 years ago, and during the 12 years he was in its service he did valuable work for the institution. In December of 1903 he took a rprominent part in the opening of the Taihape branch of the bank. Abons three and a half years ago he was promoted to Ashburton. Ho was an enthusiast in practically all branches of sport, and in his younger days represented Blenheim in rowing, football} and cricket. Mr. Mowat loaves a widow, three sons (one of whom, Colin, is away with one of the recent contingents), and a daughter. The deceased had many estimable qualities; he was as big-hearted as he was big physically, and there will be genuine regret at his comparatvcly early passing. He was 4S years of age.
