NEW ZEALANDERS DECORATED. DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDALS. (Ree. S.lO a.m.) LONDON. Sept. 6. TUsUnguished Conduct Medals have Vice n awarded to the fololwing New Zealanders: Canterbury Battalion: Private H. Barlow, who at Quinn’s Post, on the 21st June, on his own initiative, crawled out of the trenches to reconnoitre an enemy’s bomb-proof shelter and dropped in two bombs; also throughout distinguished himself most courageously. He is a skilful bomb-thrower. Private A. Findlay, on 21st April, at Gaba Tepe, rescued several wounded under heavy shell- and rifle-fire on the open beach. Sergeant W. Rodger, during a sortie on 4th June, at Quinn’s Post, was in charge of a party of men, and, although seriously wounded by a bayonet thrust, refused to retitre. Wellington Battalion: Corporal P. Bennett, who on the 21st April, at Gaba-Tepe, maintained the supply of ammunition td machine-guns under heaviest-fire. " Auckland Battalion: Corporal Reid, who, when officer and sergeant of his machine-gun section were killed, took command, and bj r his brave example prevented the flank of his battalion being turned. Sergeant R. Tilsley, on the night of June 4th, at Quinn’s Post, went to enemies’ trenches and carried them by assault, but when enfiladed by machine gun fire, Tilsley built a sandbag traverse. which was constantly blown away by Turkish bombs; he continued until New Zealand Engineers: Sergt A. Abbey, on the second day at Gaba Tepe was distinguished for his zeal and bravery in command of a partv who were entrenching under the heaviest fire. Sapper Scrimshaw, on the 24th April at Gaba Tepe on four occasionsbrought in wounded after all other attempts to rescue them had failed. i New Zealand Ambulance; Private A. A. W, P. Henry, on the 21st April, at Gaba Tepe, attended wounded under the heaviest fire, allowing no danger to interfere "with his duties. Army Medical Corps. ! Private Crawford Watsmen gallantly j did exceptionally good work in connec- 1 tion with the improvisation of the hospital ship Lutzmer; no work was too difficult or hazardous. j
