REFORM CAUCUS. ALL ORGANISERS RECALLED. WELLINGTON, This Day. A special meeting of the Dominion Executive of the Now Zealand Political Reform League on Saturday unanimously decided that all active organising work under the control of the Executive should cease during the life of the National Government, and that the League’s organisers be withdrawn forthwith.
BURGLARY AT MIRAMAR WATERWORKS SAFE ROBBED. BLOWN TO PIECES. WELLINGTON, This Day. The safe and strongroom at the Waterworks, Miramar, were blown open on Saturday night, and a sum of £2O stolen. The saf e was blown to pieces, and the strongroom- reduced to fragments. SHIP ROBBED AT WELLINGTON MANIFEST AND OTHER VALUABLE PAPERS STOLEN. WELLINGTON. This Day. While the steamer Chalister. from New York, was lying in Wellington harbour, the Captain discovered that a box containing the ship’s manifest and other valuably papers, together with about £3OO in cash, had been stolen.
No arrest s liave been made. ALLEGED ‘EMBEZZLEMENT. OF ROAD BOARD FUNDS AUCKLAND, This Day. John Phillips, an. elderly man. clerk to the Point Chevalier Road Board, was arrested on a charge, that on divers dates, between August, 1914 and August, 1915, he recejrefd (sums of money aggregating £262 19/6, on behalf of the Point Chevalier Road Board. He was remanded for a week, bail being allowed in one surety of £2OO.
