Within the past few weeks the various agents for the Labour Department have sent almost 400 workmen to Trcutham crimp, and an additional score to Featherston. The majority of the men have been drawn from Wellington City, but fairly large numbers have come from Christehurch, whilst. Timaru, Ashburlon, Blenheim, Wangamii, Palmerst-On North, and Auckland have sent a quota. Wherever carpenters have been obtainable, they have been offered work at Trentham; in fact, the Department has made a special appeal to competent men to proceed at once to take up employment at the camp. General labourers have also been called on in large numbers. Among the workers are several men who have enlisted and are waiting to be. called up for service with tlie reinforcements. Jn Wellington this call for workers lias practicably put an end, for the tkno being, to unemployment amongst labourers and carpenters. The pressure in Christehurch has also been relieved considerably.
