'HELL'S MOUTH" AT YPRES. In a letter to Iris father on "The Christian World" staff, a Canadian cyclist dispatch rider tells a dramatic story cf a sentry. During- the Ypres jhting ',ha was riding with another cyclist—in case one of them should b 6 hit while carrying the message—down i road leading right through the city. Fkcj Germans had the range of the road to a nicety, land were, dropping' si'lr'cMs along it, especially where it entered the town at a point which had beep nicknamed "Hell's Mouth." As the two dashd past this spot they noticed a sentry whose face was familiar to th e writer of th e letter. He was sitting outside a dug-out, his rifle across his knees, guarding the road. They shouted to him as they passed, but received no.reply, and as they were: on express work they did not stop. Returning along the same road, in the evening, when the shelling had slackened down, they found the, sentry still on .guard in exactly the same position at "Hell's Mouth." They dismounted and called out, and receiving no reply, walked to the man, and a glance showed that he was dead. There was no wound, but a large shell hole in the road gave a clue to the myste.ry. He whs apparently killed by concussion from the explosion. "There he sat, eyes strained in' the -direction cf the 'merry, as he was so well guard'ng the road when the call came. "We turned away." s?k\ the writer, "nnd with lumps in our throats savri him a salute, as a last tribute to one of the thousands of humble British soldiers who have given their lives in doing their little bit for dear old England, and were faithful unto death."
