Sentence of one month’s hard labour was passed at Northampton on Amy wmieh, a. gipsy, who obtained 5/- from Gertrude Mad docks, a cook, under pretence of telling her fortune. Later Smbii cntainod two half-crowns and a brooett, which she tied in each of three corners cf a handkerchief tor the purpose of crossing the planet.” For the fourth corner of the handkerchief fhnith naked for a ring, but Miss Maddocks did not possess one, and Smith then said a shiling would do. The girl, however, refused to advance more money, and Smith then returned the brooch and went off with the halfcrowns and handkerchief, saying she could only “cress the planet' ’ at home.
