At the beginning of last week a man calling himself Brian Donnelly made his appearance in Kangiora, and by advertising in the daily newspapers and the circulation of a business card, announced that ho had commenced practice as a veterinary surgeon. His business career was, however, of very short duatlon. Detective Gibson paid a visit to the town and arrested Donnelly, who it was alleged, was a labourer, and was wftfknown to the police as an imposter. He was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, in that he did endeavour to impose upon individuals by falsely representing himself verbally and in writing with a view to obtaining an advantage. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to three months’ hard labour.
