AWARDS TO NEW ZEALANDERS. A letter has been received by Mr G. P. Henry, of Auckland, from the Minister for Defencg advising him of the receipt of a cablegram from Sir Alexander Godley, stating that the King has conferred the Distinguish eel Conduet Medal upon Private W. J. Henry. Private Henry is th e elder son of Mr G. P. Henry, and is a member of the F:< id Ambulance. He was born in Timaru. a.id educated .in Christclrurch, where h e learned the; printing trade. i';'i - ';V- Henry came to Auckland about eight years ago, and it was here iie nualliied in ambulance duties. Private Henry is 2S years old. fn a letter recently received by the Minister for Defence; General Godley stated that he had recommended two meriboi's of the New Zealand Engineers for "most conspicuous gallantry" in blowing up a Turkish blockhouse. Th f names of these two men- —LanceOITCVaI FC. J. H. Fear and Sapper E. A. Hedges —were included in the list cabled from London on July 4, but no particulars were then given regarding th c . circumstances in which they gained th e distinction. Lance-Corporal Fc-T is a son of Mr F. J. W. Fear, Willis Street, Wellington. Sapper Hodges is a son of Mrs Elizabeth Hedges, care the High Commissioner's office, London, and joined th e . New Zealand contingent raisde in Enrland. ■ Advice has been receievd through official channels by' Mrs Tilsey, 191 Hcbeon Street, Auckland, that the Distinguished Conduct Medal has been awarded, to her- son, Sergeant Robert Tilsey, Auckland Infantry Battalion. Sergeant Tilsey, who is twenty-two years old, was working as an electrical engineer in Rotorua when he joined th e expeditionary force. A casualty list issued on July Ist reported that he had been wounded and sent to England.
