ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE COURT CARDS.

There is always a fascination about a

good muscial costume comedy entertainment, but particularly so when it is presented by a company with such an excellent reputation as the Court Cards, the successors to that well remembered band of pioneers, the Scarlet Troubadours. The Court. Cards, quaintly costumed, and presenting their entertainments in a picturesquqe setting, retain many of the prominent features that made the Troubadours such favourites, but they have so greatly added to, and improved upon the original style as to quite deserve the glowing tribute paid to them by that most severe of all musical critics, the "Triad." which remarks: "This is absolutely the finest company of its kind that I have seen and heard in Australasia." Such praise is really well merited, for the Cards, while vocally the equal of any of the predecessors, and specialising in a splendidly balanced male quartette and those melodious accompaniments that so enhance the 1 rendering of a good solo, have developed their concerted work, and the hu- ! morous side of their programmes to a degree not previously attained by any similar combination Their well , staged scenes are an artistic treat, while the laughable finales and ensem'bles have the merit of freshness, nov- ; elty and bright, sparking humour. In fact, to all who love a clean, artistic, and humourous show, an entertainment by the Court Cards can be commended. Next issue we shall have something to say about each of the individauls of the Court Cards, but for the present it will suffice to say that they appear in Taihape on Friday, and th e box plan for their one preformance will be found at popular prices of 3/, 2/, and 1/ will be charged.
