The head teacher’s report was sub--1 mitted for the period ending 2nd July, which he stated that the attendances had been considerably reduced through sickness. Th e Question of the advisability of ke-eping'the school closed for a further period was then discussed, the chairman stating that if they opened the school and poor attendances were the result it would seriously affect their capitation money. This was not paramount, but needed consideration. Should they keep the school closed for a week longer or a fortnight? Mrs Boyd explained that measles took two weeks to develop and considered it would be adisable to keep the school closed for another fortnight. The chairman, speaking on behalf of Mr Catherwood, said that that committeeman was emphatic in advocat-

ing two weeks. On the motion of Mr McCormick, seconded by Mrs Boyd, it was unanimously decided to keep the school closed for a further fortnight.

The appointment of sub-committees was deferred until next meeting. The chairman said they now had to discuss the important resolution passed by the meeting of householders with regard to the altogether inadequate accommodation at the school. He had received a letter dated January 16th, with respect to plans, etc., for alterations, but had heard nothing about it since. It was necessary for them now to make a deermined move. He might also interview the member for th e district. The chairman said he had spoken to Mr R. W. Smith, who had said he would endeavour to arrange for an interview with the Minister, if he went to Wellington. The speaker said he would be in Wanganui next Wednesday, and he thought the Board held their meeting on that day.
