At the Police Court, George Bond, ex-egistrar of Electors at Hamilton, was charged with neglecting to pay £22 17/ .into the Public Account, to which the money was payable. It appeared that defendant allowed small sums of money collected for the sale of rolls, etc., to be mixed up with his business, which was a partnership. The sum of £22 17- had since been paid to the Department, and there was no suggestion of dishonesty or deliberate breach of regulations. Mr Cutten, S.M., said he was glad to be assured there was no element of dishonesty, but the Act was absolutely rigid: he had no option but to fine defendant £IOO.
