DISTRICT NEWS.

TE KAPTJA. A very pleasant farewell social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. Broome at the school room at Te Kapua last night prior to their departure from the district. The chair was occupied by Mr. Oscar Rowlings and during the evening he made a presentation to the guests of the evening on behalf of the residents of the district. The speaker, in a pleasing speech made eulogising reference to the guests of the evening and expressed the regret if the residents of the district that Mr. and Mrs. Broome were departing from their midst. Mr. Broome had had charge of the post office and also of tbe private exchange. In cases of sickness they answered rings at th exchange at "all times of the night, even though it was quite out of their routine hours, an in many other ways had made themelves well liked throughout the district. He had much pleasure in presenting Mr. Broome with a weather glass and Mrs. Broome with a silver tea service, as a token of the high esteem in which they were held by the residents of the district. Mr. Broome suitably responded and thanked one and all for their thoughtfulness in makng sueh a handsome pre* sentation to Mrs. Broome and himself.
