MOKE REINFORCEMENTS, A THOUSAND EXTEA MEN. • ' —* ■ WELLINGTON, Tuns 24., It was decided by the Cabinet to-day tto send an additional thousand men to the front.. The Minister for Defence, rthe Hon. James Allen, in a statement ‘on the subject, said that this had not 'been done as the result of a request from the Imperial Government. The 'Cabinet had in its own initiative decided to train and despatch the addi'tional men. Mr, Allen said with the exception of "the supply of a hundred doctors for the R.A.M.C. the Government had done in regard to the expeditionary forces on its own initiative. It was now intended to do something further. The mounted men in Egypt had to go and fight at Gallias infantry and had boeu allowed 'to go. The arrangement with the Mother Country with regard to reinforcements was fixed on a definite basis of 10 per cent, per month for mounted infailtry and 15 per cent, for infantry. i * t Since we heard that the mounted infantry were going to act as infaniry,' r ’ continued Mr, Allen, “we thought it proper to tell the Mother 'Country that we would increase the reinforcements with respect to the mountied infantry and bring them up to the ssame standard as infantry, that is 15 :per *.'ccnt. We will do this as from the retart, making up the arrears so to -•speak, and will get into camp somevtMng like another .1000 men who will dbe drawn from the men who would ‘Otherwise join the mounted infantiy. 'They will be without horses but will be nevertheless mounted infantry, acting as infantry. We have been asked not to send ftny more horses during the monsoon season.
