MILITARY BALL.

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. The Taihape Town Hall last night 'presented a very brilliant appearance, •on the occasion of the third annual military ball. This function has been looked forward to with pleasurable anticipation by many people for some the hard work of the enthusiastic committee was consummated last •night in a most successful gathering. The attendance was very good and when the dancing was in progress the hall presented a bright spectacle. A grand march preceded the programme. The predominant feature of the decorations was naturally of a military nature and flags were effectively arranged in various parts of the hall. The stage had been nicely furnished with chairs and tables and flags wore draped in the front and also suspended from the balustrade of the dress circle. A row of 'these emblems of our Empire was also hung across the entire ball-room and was most effective. The committee had to considerable trouble in the preparation of 'the floor, which was the subject of many commendatory remarks, In engaging Crozier’s (Mar•ton) Orchestra‘to supply the music, the ■committee were assured that jmtrons would be well provided for in this reaspect, and the "excellent music rendered by this well-known orchestra contributed very' largely to the pleasure of the eevning. 'Many of the selections were beautifully rendered and were well 'deserving of the applause which they "many times received. One of the striking features of the ball were the number 6f charming frocks whkh were in evidence, arid the military dress of the gentlemen arid when the dancing was in’full ■ swing the ball-room presented a 1 very’brilliant scene. The supper, which is always such an important item at a "function like this, was well catered for, -all the arrangements for this work being in the capable hands of'Mr. Butcharf. A sit-down supper'was provided and the tables were Irideri with the numerous dainties and ’delicacies peculiar to a ball. The supper room itself was prettily decorated. Altogether, the ball was one of the .-most successful and enjoyable functions of‘this sort that has taken place in Taihape and the committee has every reason to feel gratified at the result • of 1 their labours. As honorary secretary, Mr. A. G. Rogers well fulfilled his-office and with the assistance of his committee had his arrangements well in'hand and not a hitch occurred during the whole evening. The M.s.C. carried out their duties courte-ously-arid''effectively, this department beings allotted 'to'’Messrs. G. Maher, E. Eaton, N. Mayhow, and P. Mclnteer, Dancing was maintained until well into the early hours of the morning and proceedings-concluded with the enthusiastic singing of the National Anthem.
