THE CARNIVAL.
(To th e Editor). Sir, —I sincerely hope that there na foundation to the rumours in town this morning that th e Carnival Committee intends to resign in a body at to-night's meetig. The committee is evidently viewing the recent press and general opinions anent the appointment of an organiser at £5 per week and expenses as evidence of ncM-onfi-dence in the committee. I am -sure that the genef’al Reeling is not in that direction—the bene of contention is wholly one respecting the salary to b e paid the organiser As such, the gentleman selected has proved-his caon many occasions, and it would be something approaching a calamity if the proposals cf the committee to hold a carnival were not brought to fruition. If the amount of £5 and expenses is abnormal, could not the carnival proposal’s be proceeded with and if desirable the committee should b e able to come to a new arrangement with the appointed organiser. Some proposal in this direction could at least be considered, and would, I hope, be accepted and then the stray ends of dissension could be united and the town and district would be in a position to hold such a carnival that would be a good advertisement for the district and a credit to all those who have the interests cf the. patriotic funds at heart. —I am, etc., TAIHAPEITE, No. 2.
