ENGLISH LOVE TRAGEDY.
A love tragedy took place in Arundel Street, Barnsbury, a few weeks I ago. Miss Doris Beatrice Can* (23); a dressmaker who lived with her aunt at Arundel Place., Barnsbury; was attacked by Edgar Woo'dthorpe, a phonograph maker, of Union Square, New North Road, Woodthorpe, who at one time kept company with the girl, call-, ed at th e house at eight o'clock in the morning. When he knocked Miss Carr was at breakfast with her aunt. She opened the door, and Woodthorpe! immediately put his arm round her neck and cut her throat with a razor The girl screamed loudly, and then struggled away from him and back along the passage. At the foot of the stairs sh e fell into the arms of her aunt, who had been attracted by her aunt then went forward into the passage and saw Woodthorpe lying on his back inside the door. He also was bleeding from a wound in his throat which he had inflicted with the same razor. Dr Wickman was sent for, but the girl died shortly afterwards. The man was conveyed to the Highgate Infirmary. It appears that Woodthorpe had courted Miss Carr until Christmas, when she broke off the engagement, and returned his ring and presents.
