SEND-OFF AT RUANUI.
HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION". A most successful and pleasant function was held at Ruanui for the dual purpose of raising money for patriotic puropses and to say farewell to three popular young residents who were departing to take part in the struggle against our o usuries at the Dardanelles. The dance and social, in aid of cur New Zealand S-ok and "Wounded Paid,.. was held iu She woolshed, and was presided over b/ My. Forde. the manager of Ruanui, in the absence of Mr. Studholme, the owner. The dance was most enjoyable and was kept up till about -J a.m. But the events of the evening were the presentations made to the departing soldiers, Messrs. R. Hood, T. Donovan, and J. McDonnell. On behalf of friends,* Mr. Forde handed to each recruit a strong, handsome, military wristlet watch, and on behalf of Mr. Studholme who is away in Fiji) he presented each man with a serviceable silver-mounted pipe. The sendoff was most enthusiastic, there being present residents of Koeke, Raketapauma, Karioi, and Taihape. The room was beautifully decorated and made snug and comfortable. Mr. Rao and Mr. Donald Livingstone very capably acted as M.s.C, and Mr. Stevenson presided at the piano, furnishing excellent dance music, lie alsj favoured the company with two songs, which were highly appreciated. The amount realised for the sick and wounded fund was £l2 und there are yet some ticket return:: to come in.
