MUCH MARRIED MAN. The matrimonial affairs —two of which had a fatal termination —of George Smith were responsible for his further appearance in the dock at Bow Street, London. Originally Smith was charged with making false entries in relation to the registration of his marriage with Margaret Elizabeth Lofty at Bath in December last. This bride was found dead in a bath at Bismarck Road, Highgate, the day after the wed. ding, and the prosecution alleges that Smith married her in the name of Lloyd. It is also alleged that, as Georg e Oliver Love, he married Caroline Beatrice Thornhill, who is stil alive, at Leicester on January 17, 1898; that, as Williams, he married a Miss Munday at Weymouth on August 26, 1910; that he married Miss Alice Burnham, who died a few weeks later in a bath at Blackpool, at Southsea in 1913; and that, as Oliver Chas James, he married Alice Beatrice Reavil at Woolwich on September 17, 1914 No charge of bigamy has yet been preferred, and Smith appeared in the dock on the original charge Owing to the slight indisposition of Mr Hopkins, the magistrate who is investigating the charge, the hearing was of a formal character only, and a remand was granted for a Week. .* .
