Mackenzie, High Cornmis sioiito for New Zealand, stating that he mid received a letter from Cap. tain Halsey, in which he that the silk ensign presented by the women of New Zealand flew throughout the action (naval action in tjhe No(rth Sea, when- the Blucher was sunk), and,-if necessary, will fly again, though it is much reduced in size. He added that he had kept all the frayed-out gits which jhe was New Zealand. Mr Massey replied to Capt. Halsey stating that th e pieces of the flag had been received. Tjhey revived many memories of the visit of the ship to th,e Dominion. The people (here followed with interest New Zealand’s part in the naval war, and we had confidence that when the opportunity comes Captain Halsey and his officers and men would again give the enemy cause to fear the ship which bears our name. • Remnants of the flag will b e deposited in the Municipal Art Gallery in Timaru. Taumaruni electorate according to the provisions of the Act, hut in New Plymouth, he was not, therefore, qualified to be on the roll a s an elector. The Court was compelled to uphold that Mr Jennings was not at the date of election qualified to be a member of the House of Representatives.
