SUCCESSFUL ALLIED WORK. (Reed 9.50 a.m.) PARIS, April 23. A communique states that the Belgians at the bend of the Yser, north of Dixmude, repulsed an attack on Chateau Vicogne, inflicting heavy losses. North of Ypres the Germans employed a large quantity of asphyxiating bombs, the effect of which was felt two kilometres behind the Allied ilnes, forcing u e to retire. The German attack on Ypres was upheld and a vigorous countei'-attack enabled us to regain ground and make many prisoners. LANDING CONFIRMED. TURKS EVACUATE ENOS. (Reed 12.10 a.m.) SOFIA, April 24. Fugitives confirm the landing of the British at Enos. They report that the Turkish commander ordered the evacuation of the port. ALLIED FLEET SHELLING GALLIPOLI. ATHENS, April 22. The Allied feet is bombarding Gallipoli Peninsula, where the Turks are erecting- fortifications. GREAT BRITISH ACTIVITY. THE CENSOR TIGHTENS HIS HOLD. (Reed 0,20 p.m.) LONDON, April 23. Athens reports great activity among the British forcs s ' at Lemnos. The censorship is more rigid. TORPEDOER ABUSES RUSSIAN FLAG. (Reed 12.40 a.m.) ATHENS, April 23. A Greek, sailor on the Maniton states that a torpedcer flying the Russias flag signalled th e Maniton to stop. She obeyed. When 150 yards away, the lorpgdoer hoisted the Turkish flag, and discharged a torpedo.
