THE DOG TRIALS
MQAWRANGrO MEETING CONThe annual three days' Dog Trials, under the auspices of the Moawhango Gollie were concluded yesterday with the huntaway event. The attendance of the public on Wednesday and yesterday was meagre but on Thursday afternoon between two and three hundred wetted the dogs at work. The trials passei off very successfully and the entries were good, but the work of th* competing dogs was not to tho usual Moawhango standard. At the conclusion of the trials, the president (Mr. R. T. Batley) congratulated the Club on the success of the meeting and the successful competitors on the performances recorded. On his invitation cheers were accorded the Judge (Mr. A. McGlashan), the competi tors, and officials. Mr. Batley then presented the prizes. The results not previously • reported are:-*- < Class 2: Heading, bring back, and yarding.—Mr. C. S. Class 1: Hemp (winner) went out on a wide cast to suit the way the sheep were making. Made a good head in two minutes. His return waa good out of a bad position. This dog showed a lot of style right to ring, whioh was only made in 11 minutes 9 seconds, giving him ho time to show what he could do there. But Hemp's run all through was a good one. Scotland Yet (second) «ast to right. Set sheep a little while heading but headed well in two minutes. Was rather slow starting his return with sheep. Got out of two real bad traps at the rocks by good work and made ring in C minutes 55 seconds. Was a little rash but was well generalled by his master. His work at the ring was a "\litt# rash but his style was good.- *■ ST-cep (third) was cast to right. Was rather slow going out at start but made a nice head in 2 minutes 40 seconds. Style was very fair and yarded in 13 minutes 50 sees. A fair performance. Sweep (second) ran out very straight to behind sheep and crossed on heading in 2 minutes. Had a little trouble starting sheep from rocks but was very kind and careful with sheep. Came a little too far round at turn but made the line in 7 minutci? 30 seconds. Style very fair. Good work at yard, yarding ing 11 minutes 10 seconds. Except for the cross this was a very good run. Don (third) made a good head i* 3 minutes, heading over hill out of light. On his return sheep got on rocks coming from tho top of hill, where bosk; good work was put in to get them out, which lost him a little time, but the lino was made in 11 minutes §5 ascends. Let sheep past yard but put in some good work till time was ealled. This was a good run under hard luck. Class 3: Tip (winner) missed first flag, brought baok to lat, thgn pat i» real good work ia good style. Got through top flags in 8 minutes 25 seconds. This was a good run and only for missing the flrst flags would scored full points. San (second) put in a good ran ia fair style and kept well on to his sheep. Kept a good line and got to the flags in 6 minutes 21 seconds. Meg (third) started in rather listless style but very careful and fair amouut of noise. Finislted her couree in 9 minutes 30 seconds. Bob (fourth) was rather alack. Fair noise. Kept off his sheep a lot and inished in 8 minutes 6 aeeonds.
