The Taihape Daily Times AND WAIMARINO ADVOCATE.

SATURDAY, APRIL 10, 1915. A FREEZING WORKS CANARD.

(With which ia incorporated The Tai hape Post u.na Waimarino News.)

Most extraordinarily misleading statements seem to have been made at a meeting of the Wellington Meat Export Company by some one. They are attributed to Mr. E. Newman, MP., but we can scarcely credit that, a man in Mr Newman’s position could sink to the dishonourable tactics the statements involve. lie is credited with saying that it was doubtful whethey the Taihape freezing works would ever start. If Mr. Newman roads newspapers, or keeps himself in touch with what is occurring in the moat freezing trade, ho knows that'contracts for the erection of the Taihape buildings, and for the supply of machinery have been let; also that permanent officers have been appointed. We cannot believe that Mr. Newman actually said what lias been attributed to him as they are so utterly untrue as to leave no possible excuse for their utterance. Since nearly every Press Association newspaper in the Dominion has published the fact that contracts have been let and arrangements in connection with railway facilities are being advanced, it seems amazing that any public man should be so misinformed as to cause him to so outrageously pervert the facts. If by any chance Mr. Newman has said what is reported, then wi only wish to inform himHhnt the Taihape freezing works are going up just as quickly as the contractors can perform the work. The money for the work is already subscribed and there can be no surer indication of their certain materialisation.
