CONFESSIONS OF AN ACCUSED.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. There has been an interesting development concerning the charge of incendiarism against the three men, Charles Edmunds, Walter Batch and Arthur Geo. Young, in connection with the destruction by fire of th<3 old Vhite Horse Hotel, at Ngahauranga, icv,' a no-lieense district, on July 19 last. Detective Sergt. Rawle produced in ".'curt a written statement by the accused Edmonds, in which he alleged be accused said to him in Wellington m the ufeht of the fire, '"She is going ip to-night," meaning the White Morse Hotel, in which he and Young .vena interested. The three men walkid cut to and entered ho hotel, which was empty. Young got
hrough the window and opened a side dcor fcr his companions to enter, They jointly placed some sacks in a cupboard under the stairs, where there was already some old lamps and vessels that had contained oil. Young set to the collection, and afterwards did the same thing to an old- couch in •nether room, after ripping it open Mid pouring keroserie upon the stuffing. Edmonds was present in that room, while Batch watched outside, on the road. Edmonds, continuing his. statement, says he had no interest" in the hotel but received £lO from Young on the following Sunday. As the matter worried him he decided to confess. When Batch was arrested he said he was innocent. Further hearing of tho case is adjourned till Wednesday.
