BRITISH FOOD SUPPLY.
PRICES REACH HIGHEST JIN 40 YEARS. (Reed 8.50 a.m.) ■ LONDON, Feb 9. The economist, discussing- the rise of feed prices, said they were bound to reach the highest point reached for forty-three years. The purchasing power of wages had fallen seven per centum in one month. Many farmers continue to hold wheat and the blockade threat is used to hoist prices unless there is seine improvement in the position. The Government must be driven to overtake the shortage in staple foodstuffs, or re-enact maximum prices in order to save the poorer classes from widespread suffering. An Italian report -states that the Austro-Hungarian Cabinet has found that the result cf Count Burian’s visit to the Kiaser was satisfactory, but Ministers are disinclined to give certain territory ,as concessions to Italy and Rcumania, as the price of their continued neutrality.
