Grant Hervey was found guilty of forging a telegram to John Norton. Accused ph acted not guilty. He denied, on nh honour, and before God, any kn.ov’.edge t.f the telegram He was remanded for sentence.

On December 21st last, the wellknown author, Grant Hervey, was charged at Sydney with forging a telegram with intent to defrmd. The telegram was sent to Mr Gazzard, proprietor cf the “Casterton News,” and signed Livingstone. It stated that Hervey was bankrupt. cCunels for the prosecution stated that some ill-feel-ing. existed between Hervey and Gaz--;ard, and Hervey’s intention was to pave the way for a libel action. Ga.zaard published the information in the paper, and a writ claiming £2OOO damages wajs sub feel ahtly: issued against the paper. Evidence was given alleging that Hervey secured the send, ing of the telegram. Hervey w r as committed for trial, and on the charge of seeking to obtain £2OOO by false pretences. Hervey was further remanded
