EARNED GOOD OPINIONS. TWO CASUALTIES. (liecd. 12,110 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 4. A cable received by the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie, states that the New Zealand Infantry were under fire at the Suez Canal, and that they earned the good opinion of all. There were two casualties, DETAILS OF FIGHT. LASTING MANY HOURS. (Reed. 12.5 p,m,) CAIRO, Feb. 4. The enemy advanced upon Toussoun at daybreak cn Wednesday. Their artillery bombarded Toussoun and Serapeum, Our artillery and also ships in the Canal replied. The enemy failing to cross the Canal retired at three in the afternoon. The casualties included eight officers killed.
Twelve hundred Turks participated in the attack on Kanara. Twentyfive were taken prisoners.

The Bourse Gazette states that Roumanja asked Austria the reason for the concentration of troops on the Roumanian frontier. Austria replied that her only object was to prevent a Russian advance into Bukovina.

A demonstration in Spain on th<Kaiser’s birthday was secretly engineered by Germans. Numerous societies have been formed in recent years. They were ostensibly formed for country excursions, but really an integral part of an extensjvc military organisation. The excursionists not only drilled, but secured plans of every district of strategic value. SENSATIONAL WAR PLANS. LONDON, Feb. 4. Copenhagen announces that the Kaiser held a council of war at Berlin, attended by the whole military staff, a number of admirals and ministers. It js stated that sensational war plans were considered.

(Heed. 12.30 p.ra.) LONDON, Feb. 4. One German newspaper is directing its hatred against Americans for not insisting on freedom of the seas. KAISER INSPECTS HiS FLEET. (Reed. 12.30 p.mj AMSTERDAM, Feb. 4. The Kaiser inspected his fleet at Wilhelmshaven. Ho was met with a crew of 21, decorated with iron-cross-es. The Town Council banqueted the Kaiser, whose vis-a-vis was Zepplin. Soldiers and sailors sang the hymn of hate. A CANARD DENIED. (Rec, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. ■«. With reference to German newspapers statements that British vessels were sunk in the North Sea action, the Francfurtcr Zeitung suggested that the New Zealand was thus sunk. The Admiralty denied the statements, stating that all vessels returned to port.
